Burnout: Causes, Signs And Cure

Posted by on Friday, 30 December, 2011

You feel really stressed now. You feel like being more disillusioned, hopeless and worn out with every day that passes. You recognize these negative emotions, yet you feel all the more miserable and do not have the courage to change how you feel.

Be careful. When you feel these emotions, you are more likely suffering from a condition that is more serious than everyday stress: burnout.

Burnout refers to a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion as a result of prolonged, excessive stress. Those who feel burned out only feel hopelessness and desperation each day they wake up, regardless of how they will spend the whole day. In short, they are dominated by the thought that their efforts are not enough to achieve their goals.

Reasons Of Getting Burned Out

Any person who works hard but does not get due recognition or handles too many responsibilities is more likely to get burned out. Monotonous and unchallenging jobs can also also lead to burnout.

Often it stems from too much stress at work, though one’s own traits can be a contributing factor as well. A person’s perfectionism and pessimism may lead to inefficacy and exhaustion. Furthermore, the person’s lifestyle greatly determines whether he or she is prone to getting burned out. People who can’t find time to socialize and have fun are more likely to get burned out.

Burnout when not treated properly can paralyze the way you function. It makes you less efficient and draws the passion out of you. Furthermore, lack of motivation, disengagement and detachment can destroy your career and relationships.

How To Prevent And Overcome Burnout

It is never impossible to avoid getting burned out. Moreover, you can prevent it from happening by learning to manage stress, promoting a healthy lifestyle and incorporating ways of relaxation into your daily routine. But if it has already set in, getting support and engaging into hypnotherapy or other therapeutic techniques can help you regain your life balance.

Burnout can be addressed easily if caught in its early stages. So be careful to take notice of even its slight telling signs so you can immediately take the necessary course of action. Seeking the help of a hypnotherapist can prove useful. Life, after all, is great and wonderful. So try to live well!

Depression Symptoms – Difference Of Being Sad From Being Depressed

Posted by on Wednesday, 28 December, 2011

Depression is a condition that most of us can relate to at one time in our lives. For some, it is just a mood. But for others, it keeps on for a long period of time, much longer than just a fleeting mood. While each one of us can experience sadness every so often, it is different from having clinical depression. When one has depression symptoms, it will take a lot to pull him out of that condition.

We feel sad when we find ourselves in a place that makes us feel down, such as a time when one loses a beloved or when we missed an opportunity. It is simply a natural emotion. Even if that sadness briefly stops us in our tracks, we can bounce back from extreme sadness after a day or even a couple of weeks.

Being clinically depressed is a lot harder to come out of. Time doesn’t ensure a cure. It can last for years and may even return after some time. That’s because depression isn’t a mood, but a medical illness that affects both mind and body. There are times, however, when sadness is regarded as a symptom of clinical depression.

Depression symptoms are hard not to catch, but others may merely dismiss them as state of sadness that an individual can snap out of in time. When a person is having depression symptoms, he frequently withdraws from the outside world, losing interest in the things he used to regularly do.

A clinically depressed person also feels either very sad or simply empty, and has recurring negative feelings, like feelings of guilt, ineptitude, and hopelessness. This leads the person to try suicide or collect suicidal thoughts.

Depression symptoms also include suffering from cognitive dysfunctions. Persons who are clinically depressed have trouble making decisions, remembering events or particulars, and focusing. They tend to abandon their obligations and avoid social interactions, including with their family and friends.

Some experience extreme lack of appetite, causing them to severely lose weight, while there are others who overeat. Some suffer from physical pains as well, including stomachaches and headaches, though their pains seemingly have no cause or cure.

A person with distinct depression symptoms needs urgent professional help. If you know such individuals, reach out to them. A sad person can be cheered up, but a depressed person needs more complicated solution to get out of his state.

Ways To Have Motivation In The Workplace

Posted by on Wednesday, 28 December, 2011

As long as they live, people will always need food for nourishment. They will constantly want as long as they live. But what happens when a person suddenly stops needing or wanting anything? Even though he is not satisfied in life, he still loses the motivation to go on.

This is not an isolated case. Most of us have felt this way at one time or another in our lives. The motivation is gone; we no longer feel like doing anything. Other than need, there is no driving force left to present our best performance. And for many, they oftentimes feel this towards their work. They go to work everyday, not because they like to, but because they need the money. Work then becomes burdensome.

It’s not easy to recover our motivation once we lose it, but we can definitely try. There are some steps that we can do to recover the motivation in our lives.

The first is to know the reason why you are doing it. If you have trouble going to work, get a strong reason behind it. “To pay the bills” isn’t going to cut it because the reason isn’t for you, it’s for the utility companies that you need to pay. Think of your current work as your way to achieving something bigger.

Maybe you are saving for a new vehicle or you are aiming to be promoted to a higher position that’s why you endure being stuck in your current dull desk job. Envision yourself driving that vehicle or acquiring that job advancement. Putting a picture of that goal on your desk where you can see it everyday can serve as a reminder that you are there for a reason, as well as a motivation to render a better performance day after day.

Think of something that can help pass the time while you are still “stuck” behind your desk. Invite coworkers to form a hobbyist club. Or maybe a bowling game with them every Tuesday appeals to you more. Organize a mini bowling tournament for the entire company if you can. The important thing is that you are actively involved in something in the office. And by mingling with your officemates, you also get to motivate them.

Another way to get motivated is by distributing something positive. You can do that by appreciating yourself and others. Praise the whole team for their individual shares in a group project. Know that your own contribution was important too for the success of the project. Acknowledging people’s efforts and skills motivates them to do their best. And when everyone feels empowered, positivity goes around.

Even if there are breaks thrown your way, you won’t be able to recognize them if you choose not to take notice. You can choose to be stuck in a seemingly dead end job or you can change your situation by taking action today. Remember, motivation starts from yourself.
